Nikon D40 – My First Digital SLR Camera

After a long time of shooting with Point & Shoot, I finally decided to move to SLR to have more control over photos i capture… After a lot of research I finally ended up with Nikon D40 (with 18-55mm lens) as my first dSLR 🙂

Also bought SB-400 external flash, a tripod, UV Filter and carrying case with it 🙂

It's only fair to share...

    A.O.A.zahid bhai sahib plz guide me.i have only 10000 RS to buy some nice digital camera that could make stills n videos in average. i m fond of making movie clips.i only know that Nikon is a better company with low pices.

    @Roofi: w.salam, if you’re in Karachi, check the saddar camera market. You should be able to find a nikon, canon, or sony close to your budget. Check the online reviews before making the final choice.

    Dear All & Zahid sb,

    With all the due respect it is nice reading your blog, just bought D3000 ( i was reading since an year for DSLR’s finally bought that for Rs : 53,500 accessories includes UV Filter, Mid Size BAG tagged CAMTRONIX, 4gb High Speed Class 6 Card ) although deal was Ok as camera alone was costing me 51,000 with One Yr / Warranty… now a days D40 even D60 is not available although i tried buying them but nil found in my area,

    Its worth reading some reviews / Comments on DSLR although there are few ppl reading/writing those in PAK…. Do you have some pics page on digital media uploaders like flicr or google as i am interested to see pak talent and upload / share mine

    I just have seen your Photos Gallery Its Worth seeing Every picture MASHALLAH great job indeed inspiring one, i am glad we both have the same tripod it costs me Rs: 1300 from Munir Photos ( Pindi ), Yesterday i exposed some shoots soon going to create flikr account to upload… Sorry before i just red your blog not check those drag and drops holding your photos corner..

    You could get D90 for 20K more, or a D40 used for 25K less. anyways, have a nice time taking pics 🙂
    You can find many Pak groups on Flickr.

    btw, glad to knw that my blog has readers 😀 even though its rarely updated! hehe

    here is a shop in lahore dealling all photographical equipment n cameras and printing in whole sale prices….i get my d90 from their in 1 lac wid 1 year warenty.
    shop name: sunlite studio system
    its located at nisbet road but not in market ….they r far from market n shopkeeper buy meterial from there……
    u can get any thing from their about photography

    hey, i went to saddar and found a shop that had really good slr’s, i found a second hand (good condition) canon xs (rebel series) for 38k and a brand new pentax kx-1000 for 38k. which one should i choose and also the guy said there is no warranty even for pentax, should i be worried or this is just how saddar is ?. I would appreciate help from anyone but only if you know what you’re talking about. thanks.

    I am university and now uni’s requirement is to buy DSLR camera
    i preferred to buy used dslr but confused which model to buy and of course prices really matters.
    dslr are very expensive.
    I request you to suggest me good dslr with affordable price.

    For dSLR, Trying finding Nikon D40. For a new entry-level Nikons or Canons you would need to raise your budget for that. Sony Olympus might work too.

    Any good Point&Shoot Canon or Nikon should be available within your range. I would highly recommend Canon S90, SD960, or SD970.

    I have no idea about that camera. Camera Stuff can be found at Regal, Saddar. I usually deal with Farhan at Amin Electronics.

    ive got a nikon D40 & it’s not starting up at all.. i live in islamabad… & purchased the thing few weeks back!! it was okay a night before… & in morning refused to even start AT ALL

    although the battery’s fully recharged :/

    zahid please help me with ths ASAP

    Wow learnt alot about DSLR’s by just reading comments here. I want to buy my first DSLR. I have been using a Sony Cybershot for the past 2 years but now feel like upgrading to a DSLR. But the prob is my budget. Can you please suggest the best DSLR under 25k?

    Try finding out used Nikon D40, Sony A3xx, Canon 400D(XTi).. they should be close to your budget.
